What is SEO?
Search Engine Optimization is the practice of structuring websites, content, and social media activities so that businesses can be found by the prospects and customers who need them.
How does SEO work?
When a user types into Google (or Bing or Yahoo) something like “My service in My Town” a list of links appear on what’s called the Search Engine Results Page (SERP).
The order (rank) of those links is what’s important.
Back in the old days, the Yellow Pages would list businesses in alphabetical order.
Today, search engines order results based on complex formulas that include everything from the quality of a site’s design, the number of people talking about it on social media, the reviews it’s earned, and much more.
Do I need to worry about SEO?
The farther from the top that your business appears, the less likely it is to get attention. And if it isn’t in the top 30, it’s almost guaranteed to be ignored entirely.
So, if your business depends, even to the smallest degree, on engaging new people, then yes, you need to worry about SEO.
